4 Easy Ways to Make a Big Difference in the World this Holiday Season

“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”
―Barack Obama

It's hard to believe that October is almost over! (My neighbor spent the weekend setting up her Christmas tree and outdoor Christmas decorations and I'm like WHOA. ha!)
As we head into the official Holiday season I'm reflecting on all that has happened in the last few weeks in our big, beautiful world. I was beginning to feel overwhelmed with recalling all the tragedy and disaster that recently occurred, so I wanted to offer a few practical and easy ways that we can all get behind our brothers and sisters affected by Hurricane Irma, the California Wildfires and the Las Vegas shootings. While so many of us are able to move on from the news reports mostly unaffected by what is happening in other parts of the world, it can be easy to forget that there are communities of people rebuilding, recovering and even grieving because we are caught up in the excitement of our Halloween costumes and the upcoming Holiday season. But there are so many ways we can tell others we care about them and have not forgotten about them in their time of struggle.
1. If you know someone from a community that was affected by any of these recent events, regularly touch base and check in on them throughout the coming weeks. The Holidays are hard enough on most of us who still have our homes and families in tact. Let them know you're thinking of them and give them space to share. There is so much power in a phone call or text message just to say, "I care for you and want to know how you are doing."
2. Donate to a relief fund. Any time any tragedy strikes a community, the most quick and practical way to help when you can't be there in person is to send money. There are people locally who are set up to offer assistance locally who can use our dollars for good. Here are a few of reputable places to give and support relief efforts in Puerto Rico, California and Las Vegas:
Napa Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund
LAS VEGAS VICTIMS' FUND
3. Join Preemptive Love's newest initiative, The Frontline. This is a new monthly giving program that enables your money to provide food, water, and medical care for families in conflict. Your donation provides jobs, income, and hope so that people across the world who are affected by disaster can do more than survive. Members of The Frontline can become part of a local chapter unmaking violence in your own community and encouraging one another forward, because building a kinder world with friends by your side.
